Att Apple inte vill ha reklam för konkurrenter på sin butik är väl i och för sig förståeligt. Men att hindra små utvecklare från att göra reklam och påpeka viktiga selling points på det här viset är mer än bara lite fånigt i mina ögon…
Grejen är att Apple är sådana vansinniga kontrollfreaks. De vill kontrollera varenda del av din pryl. Det är också därför det nu är tveksamt om huruvida de överhuvudtaget kommer tillåta den mobila webläsaren Opera Mini i sin Appstore. De gillar inte konkurrens helt enkelt.
Det är sådant som gör mig till ett fan av Android istället. Android är ett Linuxbaserat operativsystem för mobiltelefoner (och liknande enheter, som tablet-datorer i stil med Apples iPad till exempel) vilket tillåter mig som användare betydligt större kontroll över min egen telefon.
För att inte tala om att jag kommer kunna byta till en helt annan telefonmodell om jag vill, och ändå ha tillgång till samma appar som på min förra telefon. Bara det är värdefullt, istället för att vänja sig vid program som man gillar och därför bli mer eller mindre låst till att alltid köra apparater från samma tillverkare…
Frihet och valfrihet liksom.

Hur tänkte han nu.. Om han byter till Blackberry eller iPhone eller ett dussin andra telefoner kommer android apparna inte funka.
Naturligtvis inte. Men Android finns – och framförallt kommer finnas – på ett betydligt större urval av telefonmodeller, hos en stor mängd olika tillverkare, än vad apples Appstore finns tillgänglig på.
Total valfrihet är naturligtvis en ouppnåelig utopi, men att jag redan idag har ett 10-20-tal olika telefonmodeller från olika tillverkare att välja på – och dussintals fler planerade under 2010 (som bekräftats officiellt hittills) – bådar ändå gott inför framtiden.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
