Gamers: Dags att bojkotta Ubisoft?

Även single player-spel alltså. Som du köpt ärligt och installerat på din egen dator.
Varje gång du slår på spelet kommer det att kontakta Ubisofts server, vilket bara det är värt att fundera en gång extra över. Dels ur rent integritetsperspektiv – känner du dig verkligen bekväm med att det här företaget har möjlighet att kartlägga dina spelvanor exakt i minsta detalj? Det kanske inte låter så farligt just nu, men om något år, när folk börjar tvångsomhändertas enligt en uppdaterad LVM och skickas på rehab för “datorspelsberoende” så kanske du får anledning att bry dig desto mer.
Ett mer omedelbart problem för dagens gamers är så klart att spelet inte går igång överhuvudtaget om du inte har tillgång till internet. Så glöm det där med att spela på laptopen när du sitter på tåget eller är på semester långt ifrån bredbandet hemmavid. Eller när din uppkoppling hemma strular för den delen.
Om din uppkoppling är lite ojämn så kan du få problem även efter att spelet gått igång. Tappar du kontakten med Ubisofts servrar så pausar spelet nämligen sig själv. Så om din internetuppkoppling är som de flesta uppkopplingar jag har haft så kan du räkna med att det blir mindre spelat än du antagligen hade tänkt…
Men det kanske är lika bra att spelet låser sig själv vid internetbrist i och för sig. Alla sparade spel hamnar ju ändå på företagets servrar, och inte på din egen dator, så du skulle inte ha mycket för att fortsätta spela om uppkopplingen dog i vilket fall.
Man kan gissa att den här idén är ett sätt att försöka förhindra piratkopiering. Det är i så fall den sämsta idén till kopieringsskydd som jag hört talas om hittills. För vad kommer hända med det spel som fungerar på det här viset? Jo, någon upprörd gamer kommer att bygga en patch som gör att spelet går att spela i offline-läge. Men det är ju olagligt, så de som i slutändan verkligen förlorar något på systemet är de betalande kunderna.

Spore är till dags dato det mest piratkopierade spelet någonsin.
